Splinter Reeds

Splinter Reeds—a paradigm-shifting reed quintet founded in the Bay Area in 2013 and now dispersed across the US—returns home for a bracing performance of spatialized electroacoustic work. The program includes a new composition by Hugo Morales Murguia entangling the group's woodwinds with electric fan-driven game calls, a rare full presentation of Paula Matthusen's immersive Antenna Studies (a work featured on their most recent album that incorporates FM radio transmission and sonic contributions from the audience), and Treatment V by beloved local High Frequency Resonance wizard Zachary James Watkins.
