Thomas Dimuzio will be playing in quadraphonic sound with his Buchla 200e modular system in tandem with signal processing and his custom textural looping environment.
Thomas Dimuzio is a San Francisco–based composer and sound artist known for his pioneering use of live sampling and his performative approach to modular synthesis. Active since the late 1980s, he developed early real-time sampling systems that treat sound as a mutable, evolving material—captured, transformed, and reintroduced during performance. His work collapses distinctions between composition and improvisation, studio and stage.
Dimuzio’s practice blends sampling, synthesis, feedback, field recordings, and collaborator inputs into interactive electronic ecosystems. In recent years, he has focused extensively on Buchla modular systems, presenting immersive, spatialized concerts and the ongoing performance series Sculpting Electric. His music has been released internationally on labels including RéR Megacorp, RRRecords, Asphodel, Sonoris, and Gench, and he has collaborated with artists such as Chris Cutler,
Fred Frith, Negativland, Matmos, and Alan Courtis. He has performed widely across North America and Europe in concert halls, museums, and experimental venues.
