Internationally acclaimed DoYeon Kim performs at Spruce Street concerts in a rare solo performance on the gayageum, a 2,000-year-old traditional Korean 12-string plucked zither. DoYeon Kim's music is a singular synthesis of Korean traditions, avant-garde jazz and improvisation. Her music draws on her deep training in Korean traditions while opening the instrument to free improvisation and contemporary experimental music. In her hands, the gayageum becomes an extraordinarily expansive instrument--at once delicate, percussive, lyrical, and fiercely physical, as demonstrated in this remarkable video of a solo DoYeon Kim performance. Kim has become a distinctive presence in New York's experimental and improvised-music community. She has collaborated with the likes of Tyshawn Sorey, Kris Davis, Mat Maneri, William Parker, Mark Dresser and Peter Evans. Her debut album as a leader, Wellspring, arrived in 2026, featuring Tyshawn Sorey, Mat Maneri, and Henry Fraser.

Cost: $40
