On Wednesday, October 14 at 7:30pm, Tom's Place presents
Philip Gelb (shakuhachi) and Dana Reason (piano)
and
Wagner-Brown-Duff trio
(Janel Wagner (voice), Ari Brown (trumpet), Tim Duff (doghouse bass))
Philip Gelb and Dana Reason first met and started playing music together in College in Florida. For many years they were part of the Space Between, a trio with Pauline Oliveros that often included a guest bass player. They current have a collective trio with Kyle Bruckmann as well as numerous projects of their own. Dana is currently visiting artist in residence at CCRMA at Stanford and Phil is about to embark on a 7 week tour of concerts in China, Vietnam and Thailand.
Opening the festivities will be the trio of vocal gymnast Janel Wagner, trumpeter Ari Brown and contrabass manipulator Tim Duff. This show is being put together at the last minute, and I have no PR copy from the trio. But I hear them regularly (they rehearse at Tom's Place) and I like what I hear.
