Serving the San Francisco Bay Area New Music Community

Sat, Mar 21 2009 8:00 PM

Flux 53 Theater
5300 Foothill Blvd., Oakland

Oakland arts collective Flux 53 is pleased to announce the first in an ongoing series of jazz/new music nights. Bring your ax and your ears to Foothill & Fairfax on Saturday, March 21st, for OUTFLUX! A triple-threat performance, journeying from straight-ahead jazz to points yet uncharted, will give way to an open jam with audience members invited to participate as the spirit moves them. (Keyboardists: Flux has an electric organ!)

Local legend Phillip Greenlief (listen30.payplay.fm/v/i/vitwilderness/vitwilderness-27-clip.mp3) will blow your mind with his new trio Love Gamble, featuring Noah Phillips on guitar and Tim Perkis on electronics (cdbaby.com/cd/sfnptp). Lewis Jordan will wax poetic in between spells of eloquent alto sax (lewisjordan.com/ontheone.mp3). And you’ll be knocked out by the finely articulated drumwork of newcomer Max Griffith (myspace.com/goopmusic).

We’re opening the doors at 7 to give you time to introduce yourself, get to know the place, mull some art, mingle and nosh before the show starts at 8pm. Food and drinks will be served between sets. Tickets are $10 online, $15 at the door. Seating is limited, so get your tickets NOW at inticketing.com/evlist.php?events=search&v=5931 or email us at flux53theater@gmail.com.

With two stages, a patio, and a gallery, FLUX 53 is the convergence point for the rich diversity of Bay Area culture, broadening both the palette of the artist and the palate of the audience. Take 880 to High or 580 to Seminary. Turn right on Foothill. We’re at 5300. (GPS—Feh!) Check out what we’re about at flux53.com!
