Serving the San Francisco Bay Area New Music Community

Kattt Atchley
Kattt Atchley is an experimental vocalist, composer/improviser, and visual artist. She creates sound with voice (multiple tunings, pitches, drones, abstract speech), often combined with amplification, feedback, pure electronic waves, to create a unified sound. She enjoys playing solo or with others in acoustic and electro-acoustic environments. Since the late 90’s she has performed in an improvisational vocal duo with Ron Heglin. She is in the electronic band “The Atchleys" and often collaborates with her husband, Kenneth Atchley. Kattt has performed at various venues, from theaters to galleries to museums to living rooms and back yards, in the Bay Area (some still exist: Berkeley Arts Festival, The Lab, New Langton, Center for New Music, Octopus Literary Salon, Yerba Buena, Hootenanny at Ivy Room, Luggage Store, 21 Grand, Center for Sex and Culture, Adobe Books, Stork Club, 848 Space, Blackbox Theater, SFMOMA, Goat Hall, Crack O' Dawn KPFA, Tuva Space, Fine Arts Cinema, Meridian Gallery, CCA, Beanbenders, Sweat Shop, 23Ten Gallery, and others) and beyond.

These are some of the themes explored in recent collaborations in moving image and sound by Kerry Laitala and The Atchleys. Media archaeologist and 16mm projector performance spellbinder Laitala will present new and resuscitated imagery, with composer / improviser / experimental musicians The Atchleys (K & K) providing live audio accompaniment. The light and sound display will be sequenced to cycle through elemental orbs, leaving viewers draped in a colorful cloak of decay, rebirth and contemplation. Pieces will include Figments in Film #1 and Ghost Town.  More...
