Janis Mercer, piano, Daniel Lewin, violin and Friends perform chamber music and songs by Anton Webern to commemorate the 75th anniversary of his death. Other musicians will include Heidi Moss, soprano, John Smalley, baritone, Robert Howard, cello, Karen Wells, clarinet, Dan Flanagan, violin, Dan Henderson, saxophone, Carol Rice, cello, and Tiantian Lan, viola. Music will include String Quartet 1905, Quartet Op, 22, Three Little Pieces for Cello and Piano, Op. 11, Four Pieces for Violin and Piano, Op. 7, Five Songs on poems by Stefan George, Op. 4, Satz für Klavier and Kinderstück Project: works by Bay Area composers using Webern’s Kinderstück as inspiration.

Ensemble for These Times (E4TT) kicks off its 2020/21 season with “Old Becomes New,” new music by living composers transforming older music styles, forms, and themes to give them fresh, new perspectives. Featuring two World Premieres by California composer Mary Bianco; the California premiere of “Through the Guarded Gate” by Juliana Hall to poems by Margaret Widdemer; and “Winter Dream” (in memorial Charlotte Salomon) by Dalit Warshaw performing her own music via stream from NYC. Other composers include Marti Epstein; John Musto; Alden Jenks and E4TT co-founder David Garner; Grigory Smirnov; Esa-Pekka Salonen; Steven Stucky; Tan Dun; and Pablo Ortiz.  More...
