about
San Francisco Bay Area improvisers Phillip Greenlief and Thomas Dimuzio present Ready Box, a striking set of electro-acoustic improvisations recorded at the legendary Fantasy Studios just one week after the passing of synthesizer pioneer Don Buchla. The album is a co-release from Gench Music and Evander Music.
In these deeply responsive performances, Dimuzio samples and transforms the shifting frequencies of Greenlief’s woodwinds, weaving them into vivid electronic textures while simultaneously sculpting striking sound images from the Buchla modular synthesizer. The result is a fluid, shape-shifting dialogue where acoustic breath and electronic circuitry blur into a single sonic organism.
Throughout Ready Box, the duo engages in a kind of sonic hide-and-seek: tones appear, dissolve, and reemerge in unexpected forms, making the origins of each sound intriguingly elusive. The album showcases two of the Bay Area’s most inventive improvisers moving seamlessly between chaotic surges of sound and spacious, meditative passages of otherworldly beauty.
Dedicated to Don Buchla, whose pioneering vision continues to inspire generations of composers, musicians, and instrument designers.
