New Queer Sound/Media showcases work by queer musicians, media artists, and performers. The June 2026 edition features three solo sets, by Bob Ostertag,
Amanda Chaudhary, and
Bill Hsu.
Bob Ostertag has been playing and recording music, and writing journalism and books, since the late 1970s. He has performed at venues such as Lincoln Center (New York), Hiroshima Museum of Art, and Institute for Contemporary Art (London). His musical collaborators include the Kronos Quartet, John Zorn, Mike Patton, Justin Vivian Bond, Fred Frith, and EDM DJ Rrose.
He was an original member of the media guerrilla group The Yes Men. He directed, edited and produced Thanks to Hank, a documentary on the unsung hero of the AIDS epidemic in San Francisco. He works with Manos Amigues, an LGBT-run soup kitchen in Mexico City, and Kebaya, a shelter for victims of sexual violence in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Amanda Chaudhary is a composer, bandleader, electronic musician, jazz keyboardist, and visual/sound artist. She blends experimental electronic sounds with jazz, funk, dance music and other idiomatic styles into her visually captivating performances. Amanda has performed, recorded, or collaborated with such diverse artists as Amy X Neuburg, G Calvin Weston, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Rent Romus, Tom Djll, Moe! Staiano, Vacuum Tree Head, and David Wessel. She is also the author of the popular video channel CatSynth TV, where she discusses music, art, culture, and, of course, cats.
